Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 16, 2026
The English version of this document is the authoritative version and applies in all regions.
This Privacy Policy explains how MintSoft ("we", "us") handles information when you use the SunTrace mobile app for iOS and Android (the "App"). SunTrace does not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, email address, or phone number to use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Depending on the features you use and the permissions you grant, the App processes the following information:
- Approximate location. If you allow location access, the App uses your approximate (coarse) location while the App is in use. You can also pick a city manually instead of sharing your location.
- Saved places and settings. Cities, spots, preferences, and widget settings you create are stored on your device.
- Advertising identifier and device information. For users who see ads, Google AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, if you allow tracking; Advertising ID on Android), IP address, device model, operating system, and ad interaction data.
- Purchase information. If you start a free trial or subscribe, our subscription provider receives a random, anonymous app user ID and your purchase and subscription status (for example, product, start and renewal dates) from Apple or Google. We never receive your payment card details.
- Diagnostics and app usage. The App sends limited technical data to our own app management server: a random installation ID generated on your device, platform, app version, operating system version, device language/region setting, and how long an app session lasted. If the App crashes or encounters an error, it sends an error report (error type, error message, technical stack trace, app version, and platform). These reports do not include your location, name, or contact details.
- Camera and motion sensors. AR Sun View uses the camera to show a live preview with the sun path overlaid, and Sun Compass uses the compass and motion sensors. This is processed on your device only; the App does not record, store, or upload camera images or sensor data.
2. How We Use Information
- To calculate sun and moon positions, sunrise and sunset times, golden and blue hours, shadows, and horizon profiles for your location.
- To fetch weather, UV, historical climate, map, and terrain data for the places you view.
- To show your local information in home screen widgets, Live Activities, and notifications you enable.
- To show ads to users of the free version and to measure ad performance.
- To provide the free trial and subscription (SunTrace Pro) and restore purchases.
- To count active installations, check whether an app update is required, deliver service announcements and settings, and find and fix crashes and bugs.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Location Data
Astronomical calculations are performed on your device. To fetch data for a place, the App sends that place's coordinates (not your identity) to the services listed in Section 4: weather and UV forecasts and historical climate data (Open-Meteo), map tiles (OpenFreeMap), and elevation data for horizon calculations (Terrain Tiles hosted on Amazon Web Services). City search and place names use the geocoding service built into your device's operating system (Apple or Google). Aurora forecasts use a global geomagnetic index from NOAA, and no location is sent for that request.
We do not store your location on our servers, and the App does not track your location in the background. You can turn off location access at any time in your device settings and select a city manually instead.
4. Third-Party Services
We share information with the following service providers only as needed to operate the App. Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy:
- Google AdMob (advertising, including the Google User Messaging Platform for consent): Google Privacy Policy · How Google uses information from apps that use its services
- RevenueCat (subscription management): RevenueCat Privacy Policy
- Apple App Store and Google Play (app distribution, payments, subscriptions, ratings, update checks, and device geocoding): Apple Privacy Policy · Google Privacy Policy
- Open-Meteo (weather, UV, and historical climate data): Open-Meteo Terms and Privacy
- OpenFreeMap (map tiles based on OpenStreetMap data): OpenFreeMap Privacy Policy · OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy
- Amazon Web Services (hosting of the public Terrain Tiles elevation dataset): AWS Privacy Notice
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (global aurora index; no personal data is sent): NOAA/NWS Privacy Policy
Crash and error reports and app usage data are sent to MintSoft's own app management server and are not shared with third-party analytics or crash-reporting companies. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.
When you use the share sheet or add an event to your calendar, the App hands the content to the app or system feature you choose; what happens next is governed by that app.
5. Advertising, Tracking, and Your Choices
The free version of SunTrace shows banner ads provided by Google AdMob. SunTrace Pro subscribers do not see ads.
- iOS (App Tracking Transparency). The App asks for your permission before your advertising identifier (IDFA) can be used to track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", ads are still shown but are not personalized using the IDFA. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
- Android. You can reset or delete your Advertising ID, or opt out of ads personalization, in your device's Settings > Google > Ads (or Settings > Privacy > Ads, depending on your device).
- EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Where required, the App asks for your consent through Google's consent form before ads are requested. Ads are not requested unless the consent requirements are met. You can review or change your choice from the privacy options entry in the App's Settings screen.
Learn more about Google's ad personalization controls at Google My Ad Center.
6. Notifications, Widgets, and Calendar
Reminders (for example, golden hour alerts) are scheduled as local notifications on your device; we do not operate a push notification server for them. Home screen widgets and Live Activities display data stored on your device. When you add an alignment date to your calendar, the App opens your device's calendar with a new event for you to confirm; the App does not read your existing calendar events.
7. Data Retention
- Data stored on your device (saved places, settings, cached weather, map, and terrain data) stays on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Cached map and terrain data is refreshed periodically.
- Anonymous usage data (installation ID, app version, session length) is kept for up to 14 months and then deleted or aggregated.
- Crash and error reports are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted.
- Support emails are kept for up to 1 year after your request is resolved.
- Advertising and subscription data held by Google, RevenueCat, Apple, and Google Play is retained under their respective policies. Subscription records may be kept as long as required for accounting and legal obligations.
8. Your Rights and Data Deletion
Because SunTrace has no user accounts, most of your data exists only on your device, and uninstalling the App deletes it. Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal information, and to object to processing or withdraw consent.
To make a request, email us at app@mint-soft.com. If you would like us to delete data linked to your installation, include your request and, if possible, your platform and app version; we will respond within 30 days. You can also opt out of ad tracking at any time as described in Section 5.
9. Security
We limit the data we collect and use reasonable technical measures to protect it. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's Privacy
SunTrace is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at app@mint-soft.com and we will delete it.
11. International Transfers
MintSoft is based in the Republic of Korea, and our service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States and member states of the European Union. Where required, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards offered by those providers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add features or change service providers. We will post the updated policy on this page and update the effective date. Significant changes may also be announced in the App.
13. Contact Us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact MintSoft at app@mint-soft.com.
